1. About Vincent Tan : Vincent Tan Chee Yioun is a Malaysian Chinese businessman and Investor. He is the founder of Berjaya Corporation Berhad. It is one of Malaysia’s largest conglomerates with diversified interests, having five subsidiaries, Berjaya Land Berhad, Berjaya Sports Toto Berhad, Berjaya Food Berhad, and REDtone International Berhad, and Berjaya Philippines Inc.

2. Born on : February 1952 (Age 70) in Batu Pahat. 

3. Parents Name : Tan Lam Hui (Father) and Low Siew Beng (Mother)

4. Citizenship : Malaysian

5. Education : High School graduate from Batu Pahat High School.

6. Business : Founder of Berjaya Corporation, Owner of Cardiff City Football Club, Owner of FK Sarajevo (60%), Owner of K.V. Kortrijk.

7. First Job : At the age of 17, he found work as a clerk in a bank after his father’s business failed and sold life insurance for AIA and became an agency manager by the age of 23.

8. Career at McDonald’s : On 29 April 1982, he opened his first McDonald’s franchise at Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, took an advanced operation course at Hamburger University, and became the managing director of McDonald’s Malaysia.

9. Tan said his proficiency in English has earned him the trust of McDonald’s officials that he would be able to bring good business and thus acquire the franchise.

10. He was ranked 24th position on Forbes Malaysia’s 50 richest people in 2021 with an estimated worth of $915 million.

12. Better Malaysia Foundation : Tan is the founder of the Better Malaysia Foundation which provides interest-free loans and scholarships to students in need.

13. The Giving Pledge : Inspired by the Philanthropic work of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, in 2011 he pledged to donate half of his fortune to social causes.

14. Retirement & Return : On Feb 23, 2012, he announced his retirement from the position on the Board of Directors of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, handing over his reign to his son Robin Tan. But in 2017, he returned to the Board of directors, assuming his position as Executive Chairman, while Robin Tan remains as CEO.

15. Vincent Tan is nonexecutive chairman of conglomerate Berjaya. He gives up his executive role in April 2021 to focus on philanthropy. His son Robin Tan gives up the CEO position in Mar 2021 but continues as Executive Deputy Chairman.

16. Wife and Children : Pat Tan née Phua Kim Kee(wife) has 11 Children.

17. He also holds a stake in U Mobile, a 3G mobile-phone operator in Malaysia.

18. In December 2019, he took a 47% stake in Myinteractivelab, which operates the ride-hailing service Dego.

19. In 2017 he donated RM500,000 to Mercy Malaysia and Tzu Chi Malaysia, bringing the total sum of donations to both organizations to RM7.6 million
