As the world tries to wrestle with this unexpected challenge in the form of the Corona virus and Covid-19, people have started to use new words, phrases and expressions relating to the Covid and Covid situations. These have been used all over social media and are being used main stream media as well.
So, read on to find out some new terms and words that you may have never come across before.
Covid-idiot
“People who defy covid protocols”
Urban Dictionary defines “Covidiot” as “someone who ignores the warnings regarding public health or safety. A person who hoards goods, denying them from their neighbours.”
Macmillian Dictionary takes a similar approach, defining “covidiot” as “an insulting term for someone who ignores health advice about COVID-19.”
The term is thrown around a lot lately, but covidiots have been known to do things like act like nothing has changed, say COVID-19 is a hoax or overblown, get pissed off when they’re asked to wear a mask, or refer to COVID-19 as “just a flu.”
Covid10
Covid10 refers to the weight gained during the lockdowns (which is apparently estimated to be 10 kgs). It turns out that those work out plans never manifested. And let’s not deny the fact that we also probably weren’t on a strict diet during these times. Hats off to those who actually worked to stay fit though. 🙂
But with second and third waves, we cannot afford this to continue. So check what you are eating and ensure you walk at least 6 K Steps each day – 10 K being ideal.
Coronnial
The urban dictionary defines “Coronnials” as “the babies conceived during the “Home Quarantine” practice linked to COVID19. The first wave of Coronnials will be born 9 months after the “Social Distancing” movement has taken hold in your community”. The term is derived from the words corona and millennials and refers to those generally born on or after the outbreak of the pandemic.
Coronacut
Coronacut refers to the haircuts attempted at home during lockdowns. and hey, there is no worry if the cuts don’t turn out great because you don’t have to step out anyway.
When the elements of boredom, curiosity and sometimes necessity combine to produce some haircuts that would never see the light of day if there wasn’t a pandemic, then that’s a Coronacut.
Coronacation
As the word itself might give away, a corona-vacation is essentially Coronacation. It refers to a prolonged period at home away from one’s normal place of work, study, etc. viewed as an obligatory holiday imposed by stringent COVID-19 restrictions. It also means a holiday or vacation taken during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coronababy
A Coronababy is a baby conceived or delivered during the mandatory quarantine or lock-down time during the Covid-19 outbreak. We can also call it as Corona release, as it has come to this world during this extreme situations.
Coronasomnia
Coronasomnia is characterized by an increase in sleep problems during the pandemic, as well as symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. While insomnia is often linked to anxiety and depression, Coronasomnia differs from traditional insomnia because it’s related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coronacoaster
Coronacoaster is the ups and downs of a person’s mood, or life generally, during the Corona virus pandemic. We have all experienced ups and downs, happiness and sadness, hope and helplessness especially during and due to the pandemic. This may cause coronasomnia (let’s see if you remember what it means).
Coronagraphy
If you thought coronagraphy is related Corona or Covid, you got it wrong!
Coronagraphy is a set of optical techniques that aims at suppressing or reducing the halo of light that surrounds the image of a star, in order to detect faint structures like a circumstellar disk or companions, especially exoplanets. A coronagraph is a telescopic attachment designed to block out the direct light from a star so that nearby objects can be seen.
Zoom mom
As per dictionary.com, Zoom mom is a mother or woman who spends a lot of time using Zoom for work, their children’s school, or simply to chat with their friends who are also staying at home. This term is similar to the term soccer mom which was popularized during the 1996 US presidential election. Hats off to mothers who take care of work and children at the same time.
The pandemic has been a toll on all our lives. But it is up to us to rise to the occasion and emerge victorious. So, stay safe and don’t be a covidiot (JK. We know you are not one).
