What an incredible, unbelievable and nail biting final match between Argentina and France. Wonderful game played by Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and the entire team from both countries.
Many people had written off France by the half time. Some one even said, we need to remind France that they are playing FIFA 2022 final. But what a come back the team had in the last stretch proving ‘nothing is impossible’.
As with any major sporting event, there were many lessons to be learned about leadership and teamwork from FIFA 2022. Here are five key leadership lessons from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, particularly involving Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe:
1. The importance of having a clear vision:
Both Messi and Mbappe are known for their exceptional vision on the field. They are able to anticipate the movements of their teammates and opponents, and they have a clear idea of where they want to go with the ball. As leaders, it is important to have a clear vision of what we want to achieve and to communicate that vision to our team.
2. The value of hard work and dedication:
Both Messi and Mbappe are known for their tireless work ethic and dedication to improving their skills. They put in countless hours of practice and training to hone their abilities and become the best players they can be. As leaders, it is important to set an example of hard work and dedication, and to encourage our team to do the same.
3. The power of teamwork
Both Messi and Mbappe are team players who understand the importance of working together towards a common goal. They are able to use their individual skills and abilities to complement those of their teammates, and they are able to communicate and coordinate effectively on the field. As leaders, it is important to foster a culture of teamwork and cooperation within our teams.
4. The role of mental toughness
Soccer is a physically demanding sport, but it is also a mental game. Both Messi and Mbappe have shown their mental toughness and resilience in high-pressure situations, and they have the ability to stay focused and composed under pressure. As leaders, it is important to have mental toughness and the ability to stay calm and composed in challenging situations.
5. The need for adaptability
The game of soccer is constantly evolving, and successful teams need to be able to adapt to changing circumstances on the field. Both Messi and Mbappe have shown their ability to adapt to different styles of play and different tactics, and they have the flexibility to perform well in a variety of situations. As leaders, it is important to be open to change and to be able to adapt to new situations as they arise.
Also this is a lesson to people who communicate team success. This happened during Argentina versus Netherlands in the penalty kicks. The Argentina goalkeeper, Martinez, (in red) saves two penalties that give them an edge in the game. Then an Argentina player, Lautaro Martinez, scores the winning penalty. All the players rush to congratulate Lautaro for winning them the match. All but one player. Lionel Messi. The Captain. The Leader. He realizes if it wasn’t for the goalkeeper they wouldn’t have won. Messi rushes to celebrate with the goalkeeper. There’s a lesson somewhere there – Recognize the hidden pillar or reason for success in your team….give the due appreciation where it is deserved !
Overall, the 2022 FIFA World Cup taught us the importance of having a clear vision, hard work and dedication, teamwork, mental toughness, and adaptability in leadership and teamwork. By applying these lessons to our own teams and organizations, we can strive to be more effective and successful in our own endeavors.
